Ahmed Khan Reveals the Story Behind the Iconic Dhan Te Nan Hook Step from Kaminey

Unlike traditional Bollywood dance sequences, Dhan Te Nan was not choreographed in the usual structured manner. Instead, Vishal Bhardwaj wanted the actors to perform spontaneous, natural movements, capturing the essence of a wild night at a disco. However, at Bhardwaj’s insistence, Ahmed Khan eventually created a signature hook step. Ensuring that the song had a distinct dance element that would become instantly recognizable.

In an exclusive interview with Bollywood Bubble, Ahmed Khan shared, “I was inspired by the fight sequences of 80s films.” “Especially how Amitabh Bachchan Sir and Vinod Khanna ji moved during action scenes. Their hand movements were distinct and had a unique rhythm, which I found fascinating. When you go to a disco, people dance spontaneously, with raw energy, and I wanted to capture that exact vibe for Dhan Te Nan.”
